The overdrive Autogear Muncie gearset is basically an M21 with an overdrive gear. The gearset is very reliable and will survive behind a 300hp 327. A Muncie 4 speed can be configured for a perfect replacement of a Saginaw transmission and no tunnel mods needed. It also depends on your differential gearing what transmission gearset would works best.
The overdrive is still a 4 speed, they make 3rd one to one and 4th OD. The recommend it "only for people who have too much money already invested in their rear driveline to re-do it." The more interesting component they have is a M20 wide ratio gearset with the reduced helical gear angle of the M22.

I haven't ran the one that is assembled, but it all the overdrive parts are in good shape and the solenoid works.
The swap to a 3:55 PG rear end from a 4:11 stick rear end is common. Slide out the axles a bit, pull the pumpkin, with the torque tube, and swap her out. #2 · Mar 20, 2013 Tough and muncie 318 don't belong in the same sentence. Back in the day (mid sixties) anyone with one of them carried a spare tranny in the trunk. Thankfully only a 45 minute swap in a parking lot somewhere. Hurst makes a 3 speed Mystery shifter for them. Or there are some gm shifters also available.

My TKO at 70 mph with 3:70 gears is only 1900 rpm (36%) overdrive. I have had a Gearvendors behind my Muncie, which was 22% overderive and really was dissapointed in it, 70 mph was 2700 rpm and gas mileage still sucked at 13 with 3:70 gears and a 396. The .857 ratio gear for the Muncie is only about 15% overdrive.
